One Life and a Bahamut
Our tale begins with a risky decision made long before the first card was played.
A combo deck.
Not the careful, reliable sort, mind you—but the kind built entirely around one glorious principle:
“If this works, it will be magnificent.”
And if it doesn’t?
Well…
One tries not to think about that part too much.
From the very beginning, the signs were troubling.
The opening hand lacked promise.
The mulligan offered little comfort.
Meanwhile, across the table, the opponent’s strategy unfolded with ruthless efficiency.
Creatures poured onto the battlefield.
Landfall triggers multiplied their strength.
Combat tricks lurked at instant speed like concealed daggers.
Every turn became a desperate attempt to survive.
Captain fought back where possible—removing threats, delaying the inevitable—but the pressure continued to mount.
And then came the final turn.
Or what certainly should have been the final turn.
The board state was unmistakable.
The opponent had lethal damage ready and waiting.
Captain had almost nothing left.
No blockers.
No answers.
No real hope.
And yet…
For reasons perhaps known only to fate itself…
The opponent hesitated.
Instead of attacking with everything, they sent only a single creature forward—the largest among them—bringing Captain down to:
One life.
One.
A number so small it barely qualifies as optimism.
And sitting safely behind the attack?
A harmless little 1/1 creature.
One point of damage away from ending everything.
“A curious decision, darling. The sort one tends to remember later.”
Captain survived the turn.
Barely.
And then came the draw.
Random Encounter.
A desperate play.
A final gamble.
The sort of card one slams onto the table while quietly preparing for disappointment.
Except this time…
The chaos answered.
Out came the creatures.
Not one.
Not two.
But an army.
Summon Bahamut
two Twinfire Dragons &
Raph & Mikey, Troublemakers
And as if matters weren’t already spiraling beautifully out of control—
Raph & Mikey pulled a:
Trumpeting Carnosaur
The battlefield transformed instantly from certain defeat into absolute catastrophe.
For the opponent.
At 35 life, they likely felt quite secure only moments before.
A perfectly understandable assumption.
Unfortunately—
Captain now had enough power on the board to erase that life total entirely.
And so, from a single life point…
Victory.
“A remarkable comeback. And an excellent reminder that the dice, the cards, and the universe itself occasionally enjoy dramatic timing.”
As for responsibility?

Lady Bea’s Final Word
One life remaining.
A hopeless board state.
And one final draw that changed everything.
These, darlings, are the moments players remember forever.
Your Turn
“Tell me—have you ever stared certain defeat in the face… only to top-deck your way into legend?”
